Let's discuss some simple home remedies that can help alleviate this issue until you are able to visit your orthodontist.
First, let's talk about how to deal with a poking wire using wax.
Many orthodontic clinics provide wax for their patients on the day they have their braces put on, but if you don't have any, it's easy to find at most pharmacies and supermarkets.
To apply the wax, take a small amount on your finger and roll it into a small ball. Then gently press the wax onto the poking wire, covering it completely.
The wax will act as a barrier, preventing the wire from poking into your cheek or gums. It is important to check and change the wax as needed, especially before eating or brushing your teeth.
Another solution for a poking wire is to use a pencil eraser. Hold the pencil, and using the eraser, gently bend the wire down and away from the poked area. This will help alleviate the discomfort caused by the poking wire.
Keep in mind that some wires may be thicker and harder to bend, while others may be more flexible and may snap back to their original position if you try to bend them.
If you find yourself in a situation where the wire is difficult to bend, you can use the pencil eraser as a barrier. Carefully cut a piece of eraser from the pencil and gently insert the tip of the poking wire into it. This will create a barrier between the wire and the poked area, reducing irritation and pain.
If you don't have wax or pencil eraser, you can use a small piece of gauze or cotton and place it on the poking wire. This will provide a cushion for the wire and help to reduce the discomfort.
In the meantime, try to avoid hard or sticky foods that can cause further damage to the wire.
We hope these tips will help alleviate any issues you may be experiencing with your wire. Remember, if you have any concerns or questions, please contact us at Ramzi Assi Dental Center.
